As outraged families and small businesses react to the latest health insurance premium increases, Californians are forced to face the fact that insurance companies are not in business to provide health care to people who need it. Premium increases are just part of the concerns - pre-existing condition denials, overturned doctors' decisions, coverage rescissions and other insurance industry abuses are sadly commonplace.

As rates continued rising -- they've doubled over the last few years -- Davis cut back to paying only half of healthcare costs and required workers to handle the rest.

About a thousand California Health Professional Student Alliance marchers and supporters gathered on the steps of the Capitol in Sacramento to rally for single payer health care reform--their fifth annual event. Featured speaker was Senator Mark Leno, author of SB 810, California OneCare, the single payer bill now making its way through the legislature. The bill is expected to pass late in the summer of 2010.

State Strategy Group
The State Strategy Group had their monthly conference call today from 9am-10am. The State Strategy group is an informal group of twenty odd single payer organizations whose mission is to educate and advocate for a single payer healthcare system for Californians. The calls are chaired by Andrew Mcguire, the executive director of Healthcare For All- Califorina. >> read more
